Shared Horizons: Global Initiatives for a New Civil Society

The civil society sector is undergoing profound transformations. Cuts in international cooperation, the closing of civic spaces, and delegitimizing narratives are putting the sustainability and future of thousands of organizations at risk, especially in the Global South. In the face of this challenging context, this year RACI launched the program “Reimagining the Future of Civil Society”, an initiative that seeks to promote new collective responses and strengthen the sector’s capacities to build possible futures.

Uno de los ejes centrales del programa es la articulación, entendida como el acercamiento estratégico entre actores y movimientos que están repensando el modelo actual de ayuda y cooperación internacional. Con ese propósito, realizamos un mapeo global de iniciativas que están promoviendo cambios estructurales y que comparten una mirada transformadora.

En el marco de ese proceso, el miércoles 26 de noviembre realizaremos el encuentro que reunirá a liderazgos internacionales que trabajan en la redistribución del poder en la cooperación, la filantropía comunitaria, la transformación institucional y la descolonización de la ayuda. Buscaremos responder colectivamente una pregunta clave:

How can we transform the international cooperation system to make it fairer, more equitable, and centered on local actors?

During the discussion, we will address:

• How the cooperation system works today and why it no longer responds to the current context.

• What structural changes are needed to achieve a more equitable future.

• What can civil society organizations do to drive that transformation.

• How to coordinate efforts among global initiatives to work jointly.

Participation will be open and free of charge, with prior registration.

Below, we present the initiatives that will be part of the gathering and that have been selected for their key role in building a new cooperation ecosystem.

NEAR Network – Network for Empowered Aid Response

Global Fund for Community Foundations & #ShiftThePower

El Global Fund for Community Foundations impulsa el movimiento global de filantropía comunitaria y es el creador de la agenda #ShiftThePower, que plantea cambiar las dinámicas de poder en la filantropía y la cooperación. Convoca a actores comunitarios de todo el mundo y promueve relaciones basadas en la confianza, la horizontalidad y el reconocimiento de los saberes locales.

Reimagining the Future of Civil Society (RACI)

Esta iniciativa liderada por RACI surge ante un escenario crítico: recortes de 73 mil millones de dólares en fondos internacionales, cierre de espacios cívicos y riesgo de desaparición para el 40% de las OSC. Propone una respuesta colectiva desde el Sur Global que combine reflexión estratégica, innovación y acción concreta para fortalecer el poder narrativo, político y operativo de la sociedad civil.

ACAPACA – Permanent Latin American Forum for the Decolonization of Cooperation

ACAPACA articula movimientos sociales latinoamericanos para impulsar un nuevo modelo de cooperación internacional basado en principios decoloniales, feministas, antirracistas y participativos. Su agenda propone superar las lógicas extractivistas, cuestionar las relaciones asimétricas entre donantes y receptores, y fortalecer el liderazgo de las comunidades y organizaciones de base.
